Each of our EnergySMART homes will be rated by a 3rd party Home Energy Rating System (HERS) certified professional. Our home buyers will know exactly how their new home favorably compares to other new homes or resale homes on the market. Every Smith Grove home includes the following standard energy efficient features:
The most advanced insulation materials to effectively provide a home that is air-sealed along the roof and the exterior walls. We use insulation materials (Iceyne closed cell spray foam insulation on underside of roof deck, Spider sprayed wall insulation, and Air Infiltration Protection caulk) that are only found in homes costing $300,000 and above, if even then. The LivingSMART showcase home has scored a 65 on the Home Energy Rating System (HERS),
the independent rating system to evaluate energy efficiency of residential homes. A score of 65 means this home will have an annual level of heating and cooling consumption that is at least 35 percent less than that of a comparable home constructed in accordance with standard building codes (a HERS score of 100). Most resale homes on the market
built before 2004 would score above 100. Smith Douglas will be continuously looking
for methods and materials to lower scores below 65. A new home must score at least
an 85 to be Energy Star certified, which the LivingSMART home has significantly
surpassed. This will result in yearly energy utility savings of approximately
$800 - $1,000 per year, or $70 - $85
per month.
WaterSMART
We utilize low-volume faucets and shower heads as standard features. In addition, we offer the home buyer several options to significantly reduce their water consumption:
High efficiency Toilets – Home Buyers can select to install WaterSense-rated high efficiency toilets in as many bathrooms as they choose. Water Sense certified toilets are at least 20% more efficient than non Water Sense toilets.
Aquos Grey Water Recycling System – Home Buyers can select to install this small-scale system in either bathroom. The system captures water from the sink and recycles it to the toilet tank to be used for flushing – a simple but effective system that can save a family from between 8-10 gallons of fresh water a day or 3000 to 4000 gallons of water a year .
